Inara, a photographer in Riga
In 20 years you'll open these photographs and feel this day all over again. That's why I do what I do. Here's how I came to photography, what's in the studio, and why you don't need to know how to pose.
I started out on the other side of the lens, being photographed a lot myself. So I know exactly how it feels to have a camera pointed at you: the uncertainty, the urge to hide, the question “how am I supposed to stand?” That knowledge has stayed with me ever since.
Then I trained as a make-up artist and stylist, and in 2009 I picked up a camera, at first just to try it. It drew me in so completely that it became the great passion of my life.
My own studio has full lighting, backdrops and a wardrobe of dresses, fabrics, hats and jewellery. My regular clients joke that you can turn up empty-handed: there's always an outfit and jewellery to be found.
